Description/Flavour Profile: This one is right up the alley of The Ester Hunter. At The Whisky Jury’s office we lovingly refer to this one as “the compost bin”. At a whopping 67.9% this is just an explosion of weirdly lovely rotten fruit and vegetables, glue, gasoline, sardines and biltong with just a faint hint of death and destruction on the back of the palate reminding you you’re alive. We love that crazy stuff they produce at Mhoba!

Mhoba Rum komt uit Zuid-Afrika, regio Mpumalanga (nabij Malalane, dicht bij het Krugerpark).
Ze staan bekend om een vrij authentieke, agricole-achtige stijl, maar met een eigen twist:

Basis: vers suikerrietsap (geen melasse)

Fermentatie: vaak lange, wilde fermentaties (met natuurlijke gisten)

Distillatie: pot still (ambachtelijk, kleinschalig)
- Profiel:
- funky / esters (licht Jamaicaans randje)
- grassig, vegetaal (zoals agricole)
- fruitig (overrijpe banaan, tropisch fruit)
Kort samengevat: een kruising tussen rhum agricole (Martinique) en funky pot still rum (Jamaica), maar dan met een duidelijk eigen karakter.
